The Chemex is a source of inspiration!
The brand’s sustainability concerns do not stop with the method!
They manufacture their paper filters in the USA using local raw materials. They are biodegradable and compostable.
The trees used to make the paper are responsibly managed and comply with the following sustainability programmes: Forest Stewardship Council, Sustainable Forestry Initiative, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification. Finally, all paper scraps are recycled.

Chemex is famous for its iconic style and ingenuity.
Invented in 1941 by chemist and inventor Peter Schlumbohm, its design has remained unchanged for 80 years! Since its creation, the Chemex has spanned generations and the globe as an icon of American design. The visual elegance of the iconic Chemex® coffee maker has earned it a place in the permanent collections of many prestigious American museums, including the MOMA, the Smithsonian and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Its functionality has been awarded by both the scientific and coffee communities.
Chemex paper filters are heavier and less porous than average, so they retain the grounds and most of the beans’ oils. Result: The result is a clear, crisp filter coffee, a smooth extraction and a beautiful intricacy and aromatic clarity.
Meticulous work goes into creating each item. Each Chemex carafe is inspected individually, polished and its leather cord hand-tied in its own facilities in Massachusetts, USA.
The brand pays particular attention to its sourcing of raw materials and choice of suppliers, to ensure the entire production chain meets its socially-responsible objectives.
In addition, a Chemex is designed to last the distance. The carafes are made of borosilicate glass 3.3, which is particularly resistant and guarantees clarity and shine. Their precise, uniform wall thickness reduces tension in the glass and limits risks of cracks.
And if, God forbid, a crack should occur, Chemex also has the solution! Their website includes upcycling tips explaining creative ways of reusing products that are chipped or can no longer be used, for example as vases, lamps and even art sculptures.
