The Jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion celebrates the 20th birthday of its inscription on the World Heritage List in 2019!
The Jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion, first vineyard to be unlisted as a cultural landscape on the famous UNESCO list, celebrates this year the 20th anniversary of this exceptional adventure! 3 days of celebrations on June 28th, 29th and 30st, 2019 are an opportunity for all to discover (again) the beauty of the territory!
THE INSCRIPTION ON THE WORLD HERITAGE LIST
On December 5th, 1999, the Jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion made history by joining the UNESCO’s prestigious list of sites inscribed on the «World Heritage List». Started in 1978, this concept was introduced to promote exceptional sites whose values transcend borders. Among them, the «cultural landscapes»: these sites representing the
intimate bound between Man and nature, this living witness of the generations that have shaped the territories over the ages. This is the heart of the Jurisdiction: stories of men who have passed on their knowledge while respecting the environment and the biodiversity the world offers them.
CELEBRATING THE 20 YEARS OF THE INSCRIPTION
These 20 years are therefore an opportunity to highlight the universal and exceptional values of the UNESCO’s inscription.
Biodiversity, environment, transmission and heritage are the keywords for 2019 and all the events are celebrated as one!
