Saint-Hippolyte
« Saint-Hippolyte, commune de 140 habitants située à
2 km à l’est de Saint-Emilion, se caractérise par l’harmonie remarquable de son architecture et de ses paysages. Sur le plateau de Ferrand, l’horizon s’étend jusqu’à la vallée de la Dordogne, au travers de paysages magnifiques et variés. Isolée sur le plateau alors que le bourg s’est développé en contrebas, l’église de Saint-Hippolyte est à l’origine, associée au château voisin de Ferrand, siège des seigneurs de « Saint- Poly », pour leurs mystérieuses grottes s’étendant sur près de 100 m le long du coteau. L’église, entièrement restaurée en 1980, a été construite en trois fois. Le chœur du XIVe siècle est l’ancienne chapelle du château. »

On the Ferrand plateau, the horizon extends to the Dordogne valley, through magnificent and varied landscapes. Isolated on the plateau while the village has developed below, the church of Saint-Hippolyte
is originally associated with the neighbouring castle of Ferrand, seat of the lords of «Saint-Poly», for their mysterious caves extending nearly 100 m along the hillside. The church, completely restored in 1980, was built in three parts. The 14th century choir is the former chapel of the castle.”
